More than that, he's a nasty piece of work hiding behind a suit and a legal training. He admits he's not doing this for money but for love of Hamas or more likely, to impress potential Muslim clients whose fees are often met by anti Israel nations and organisations. I don't think he cares whether they win or not, just so long as the publicity drives wealthy Muslims to his chambers.
He is, but he actually does have a point. The UK's definition of "terrorism" really is so broad that it could include any army engaged in a war. It really would have to be narrowed down to become a meaningful legal concept, and this really is a logical argument against singling out any particular organization for "terrorism," even one as nasty as Hamas. If he were to stick to that point, and stop digressing to condemnations of Israel, he might be able to make this point more convincingly.

As this lawyer is presenting a clearly unethical case , there should be some censure on him , as he is attempting to support a terrorist organisation . But there's some distinction required between hamas and palestinians required, which seems to get lost in this routinely. I don't think either organizations, IDF or Hamas, are acting in good faith for peace. But the people of gaza surely deserve the right to live there free from occupation eventually under a new government, and didn't deserve to die in such high volume, and in such despicable ways..

Also, as another example, some people claim that Hamas committed a genocidal act/ committed genocide on Oct 7th, despite no legal judgement making this legally true: are people expressing this opinion lying? I think that many people when referring to Hamas as a terrorist organisation, which it is, are not aware of how Israel came into existence. Israel was created through terrorism when Zionist terrorist militias such as the Irgun Zvai Leumi and the Stern gang committed many terrorist atrocities against the British as well as against Palestinian civilians, for example, the King David Hotel bombing in 1946 and the Sergeants' affair in 1947. Zionist terrorist groups in 1948 committed thirty massacres, destroyed four hundred Palestinian towns and villages and drove 750,000 Palestinians from their homeland. The Likud Party which is Netanyahu's party was founded by two terrorists, Menachem Begin and Ariel Sharon. Several Israeli prime ministers were former terrorists.

My theory is that Franck's rage stems from his years of trauma during "The Troubles". As one of an oppressed group "Irish Catholics" he projects his rage at any government that remotely resembles the British government's role in Ireland. There are therapies available now which help people resolve past trauma i.e. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Havening and EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing). As I said, I'm not making a diagnosis, it's a possibility.

The problem that you’re fully aware of is, that even if they give you an acceptable rewrite of the definition, Hamas is still clearly going to fall under the new definition of terrorism.
Even when you win your argument about the definition of terrorism, you’re still going to knowingly be supporting terrorism when it is redefined. Then, you are still violating the law about supporting terrorism.

It is good to argue the case in court over assumed moral and ethical status. As the barrister says , there is far more to Hamas and the Israeli participation in their development . History didn’t begin on October 7th. Palestinians in Gaza were living in a concentration camp with a diet prescribed by Israel just above starvation and only a few hours of food and electricity a day. Whilst controlling land, sea and air borders.
The occupation and apartheid began in 1948. Hamas came along on 1987.
There is no Hamas in the West Bank and Jerusalem, whilst Palestinian land and homes continues to be stolen by settlers with the full support of Israel. More settlements are being built which is also illegal under international law.
It’s the impunity that Israel enjoys that calls those who resist occupation (legitimate according to the Geneva Conventions) terrorists.

It's worth reading the Hamas entry in the UK government's list of proscribed international terrorist groups, which gives the reasons why Hamas has been proscribed. I see nothing in there that indicates that Hamas are a threat to the UK. It's all about Israel. If the same standards were applied across the board, the state of Israel would undoubtedly have been proscribed as a terrorist state.

SO if Israel is an established recognized country, any attack from a group of bandits is terrorism. If Israel is not a recognized country then its just a tribal conflict.
